SARAH Rendell finished as the first Oxfordshire lady at Sunday’s Cotswold Classic 10-mile road race in Witney.

With conditions cool and still for the race which was also Oxfordshire County Championship event, it was ideal for fast times.

And Alchester AC’s Rendell recorded a personal best of 1hr 4mins and 10secs to cross in 33rd place overall.

As well as picking up the Oxfordshire title, she was also the top Veteran 35 and the second woman to finish behind Wendy Nicholls, of Cirencester.

Richard Gould was the first Alchester athlete home, finishing ninth in a season’s best of 59.43.

In total, 12 Alchester runners recorded pbs.

Andrew Stickley, Jamie Bagnall, Gary Warland, Matthew Shipman, Vincente Bayliss, Claire Court, Olivia Underhill, Caroline Kerr, Hannah Shipman, Emma Nelson and Annelies Henshall all took advantage of the conditions to set best times.

Alchester’s women’s team remain in second place in the county Grand Prix series, while their male counterparts are in the top five.

The next race in the series is the Woodstock 12 at Blenheim Palace on Saturday.

DAVID Kuester marked his return to competition with victory at the British Masters Weight (Throws) Pentathlon Championships at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham on Saturday. 

The Bicester AC athlete, who also competes for Oxford City AC, had been off for 14 weeks for medical reasons, but clinched the over 70s title with 2,923 points.

Kuester won the javelin with a throw of 26.78m and performed consistently to finish second in the hammer (30.23), shot (9.34), discus (26.68) and heavy hammer (12.37).
