More than 16 months after its door were closed, an Oxfordshire Muslim society has finally returned to group prayer.

Friday prayer has restarted for Bicester Muslim Society at Whitelands Farm Sports Ground in Bicester.

A-Level and CGSE results day: How did you do?

More than 70 people joined the first post-restrictions session on July 23.

Now the group want to spread the word that Friday prayer is back and all are welcome to join in.

Along with all other religious groups, Bicester Muslim Society had to close its doors in March 2020 as the country went into lockdown due to coronavirus.

Rules forbidding households to mix meant people had to pray at home with their families rather than in the usual large groups.

Bicester Muslim Society’s secretary Saeed Ahmad, known as Sid, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be able to return to in-person prayer and welcome anyone, including females and families, to come and join us for prayer at Whitelands Sports Hall every Friday."

The society has also stepped up its search for land or property that would enable it to have its own permanent community centre.

It is appealing for anyone who can help take this forward to get in touch.
