A HAIRDRESSER has managed to raise over £9,000 during a charity ball she organised for Macmillan cancer support.
Nicola Jones organised the ball at the Chesterton Hotel in just three months which included a casino, photo booth, two magicians, a three-course meal, and a disco dancefloor.
Over 200 people attended the ball, and 105 local businesses helped sponsor the event with raffle prizes and items for auction.
Ms Jones said seven members of her family have struggled with cancer and that she lost her grandmother to the disease.
“My nan died recently so I kind of did it in memory of my nan,” she said.
“She lived in North Wales, and I was up and down to Wales looking after her every week.
“And McMillan, I just couldn’t have done it without them. They go above and beyond, so I just wanted to give back to the charity after doing so much for my family.”
With a long family history of cancer, this was not the first time Ms Jones raised money for a cancer charity but said she had never organised anything of this scale before.
She said: “I’m so overwhelmed with how the night went and the support we got from Bicester community doubled my target!”
