Thames Valley Police is joining forces across the country by taking part in Operation Sceptre, a national week of action designed to challenge and reduce the threat of knife crime across the Thames Valley area. 

The knife amnesty will run next week, between Monday (May 16) and Sunday (May 22). 

During this time, the police will remind members of the public that they can safely and anonymously dispose of any type of knife or bladed article. 

The aims of the operation are to remove dangerous weapons from the streets, reduce knife crime and raise awareness of the dangers and consequences of carrying a knife.

This May, the police are also appealing for the public in Oxfordshire to hand in any unwanted, unlicensed or illegal guns.

Permanent knife amnesty bins are located in the following police stations:

OXFORDSHIRE:
Abingdon,
Banbury,
St Aldates, Oxford

BUCKINGHAMSHIRE:
Aylesbury,
High Wycombe,
Milton Keynes

BERKSHIRE:
Loddon Valley,
Maidenhead,
Newbury,
Reading,

Slough

Additional knife amnesty bins are also located in:

Aylesbury; Southcourt Baptist Church, Penn Road.

Reading; Waitrose Car Park, Caversham, Cintra Park, Coley Park Community Centre, Kensington Park, Orts Road, Tilehurst Triangle.

A Thames Valley Police spokesperson said: “If you have any information about the possession of knives or criminal activity relating to this type of crime, please report online via our website or call 101.

“Alternatively, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers 100% anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
