Two Oxfordshire SMEs have been awarded a share of a £1.8m funding pool that aims to reduce carbon emissions from transport.
About:Energy, based in Thame, and Transense Technologies from Bicester, are two of 13 SMEs who have received £135,000 of funding from the Advanced Propulsion Centre’s (APC) Technology Developer Acceleration Programme (TDAP).
Both businesses are developing technology that will help to improve the efficiency and safety of electric vehicles (EVs).
Transense have developed sensor technology that measures certain aspects related to motor health in EVs, thus bringing improvements to performance.
While About:Energy’s new technology, TrueTemp, helps to improve EV battery efficiency.
Ryan Maughan, Director of Transense, said: “The TDAP project will allow Transense to accelerate development of its sensor technology in the automotive sector. Which is an exciting and rapidly growing market.
“We believe that technology can deliver substantial improvements in efficiency performance and safety integrity to electric drive systems.”
Gavin White, CEO of About:Energy, said: “The training and funding made available by the APC will enable About:Energy to unlock our high-impact battery technology, for which we are extremely grateful.”
Josh Denne, APC’s Head of SME programmes, said: “Applications for this cohort of our SME accelerator programme have been the highest we have ever received. This reflects the opportunity within the automotive sector and the appetite for this type of support.”
