THE number of coronavirus cases in Oxfordshire has gone down in the past week.
The total went from 2,738 to 2029 in one week, a decrease of 25.9 per cent, putting the infection rate at 291.2 per 100,000 of the population.
In Oxford, the number of cases also went down from 578 to 383 in one week – a 33.7 per cent decrease, putting the infection rate at 252.7.
The highest number of cases was reported in Cowley North, where 50 people tested positive.
Cases for other areas are as follows:

- Osney, Jericho & Port Meadow, 18

- Littlemore & Rose Hill, 30
- Greater Leys, 14
Meanwhile, the number of beds at the Oxford University Hospital Trust occupied by people who tested positive for the virus more than tripled in the last four weeks.
New NHS figures show that the trust was caring for 190 coronavirus patients in hospital as of Tuesday (July 19) – 28 days ago, the number was 52.
The number of people being treated in hospital for covid by 8am on that day was up from 189 on the same day the previous week.

The figures also show that 166 new Covid patients were admitted to hospital in Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in the week to July 17. This was down from 243 in the previous seven days.
Across England there were 13,837 people in hospital with Covid as of July 19, with 318 of them in mechanical ventilation beds.
The number of Covid-19 patients hospitalised nationally has more than doubled in the last four weeks, as has the number on mechanical ventilators.
Covid cases figures for local authorities in the county are as follows:
- Vale of White Horse, 475
- West Oxfordshire, 327
- South Oxfordshire, 406
- Cherwell, 438
Last week, there was one more coronavirus death recorded in Oxford.
A total of 209 people had died in the area when the UK coronavirus dashboard was updated on Wednesday (July 20) – up from 208 a week previously.
The data is published by the Government on a seven-day rolling toll and these are the latest figures available.
