An unusual theatre company that tours the country by narrowboat is bringing its ‘bird celebration’ show to Oxfordshire.

Mikron Theatre has announced it will be touring Twitchers, playwright Poppy Hollman’s new play with original live music, celebrating all things birds, birders and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB).

This will be the thespian troop’s 51st season of touring, with the first show in the county taking place at North Aston Village Green, in Bicester, on Friday, June 23 at 7pm.

The group will also be performing at the Eyot Centre, in Henley on Friday, July 14 at 7pm, Marcy Fields in Uffington on July 16 at 2pm, Goring Lock in Goring, on July 29 at 7pm and Eynsham Cricket Club in Eynsham, on July 30 at 2pm.

For all shows no reserved seating or tickets are required, instead guests can ‘pay what they feel’ after the show.

Playwright Poppy Hollman said: “It’s a joy to write for Mikron and I’m delighted to be part of their 51st year of touring.

“Twitchers is about the RSPB, Europe’s largest conservation charity, and their struggles to protect birds and wildlife since 1889.

“The play offers a fun swoop into the colourful world of birds and birdwatching.

“Our feathered friends are the real stars of the show, and you’ll see them flirting, bickering and making their own indelible impression on the plot.”
