Oxford, a city deemed the "18th worst place to live in the country and also the 47th most desirable place to live", has come under heavy criticism from a well-known TikToker

Philc84 is notorious for his roasts of UK cities and Oxford wasn't safe either. Phil goes from place to place ripping apart whichever city or town tickles his fancy, usually comically.

With Oxford's review...well, you be the judge if he went too far.

He said: "A guide to Oxford. this is a tricky one because Oxford is on both of our lists. It's the 18th worst place to live in the country and also the 47th most desirable place to live in the country. So what is it?

"Well, it's both it's a city in the south of England on the river so that makes it desirable but then on the other hand and how do I put this politely Oxford really isn't all that."

Phil started his roast by taking a stroll around the universities.

"When you think of Oxford, you think of one thing and it's a world-famous institution - the university and this is the famous Oxford University - no I'm only joking this is Oxford Brookes, it's a playschool. The most complicated thing they do here is finger painting and all of these mouth breathers are segregated about a mile and a half from the clever students in the city.

"Don't worry, none of these Poundland Love Islanders will see this they can't turn on a phone.

"The actual university is a bunch of really old buildings dotted around the city that, on a clear day, you can just about make out through all the tourists - be honest how many of you would have heard of Oxford if it wasn't for the university? No, I said be honest, no I didn't think so."

Cowley was next on his hit list.

"This is Cowley, this is the cool bit of Oxford, no don't be mean, this is cool, this is where the cool kids in Oxford live. Oxford has the second most dangerous roundabout in the whole country and this is it.

@philc84 One of the worst AND the most desirable places to live? Personally i can’t be bothered with #oxford and no offence #oxfordbrookes inmates. #placestovisit #britishhumour #ukcomedy #satire #learnontiktok ♬ original sound - Phil

"I watched the roundabout for 10 minutes and as someone who has cycled in London my whole life, I think the issue is that cyclists here are given a sense of importance that Oxford council would like them to have, but drivers following sat navs and physics won't."

Industry came next.

"Oxford also makes the 'Mini' but despite looking for one all day to film, I couldn't actually see any, so obviously they don't trust them themselves. Oxford has two branches of the L.I.D.L, two Aldi's, three Wetherspoons - this one giving a loving nod to the Two Ronnies - and four branches of Iceland, including this one, which is next door to an M&S, it boggles the mind.

"I've never really liked Oxford it's not alternative and cool enough to mix it with Camden and Brighton, it's not touristy and historical enough to hold a candle to Edinburgh and Bath and it's not affluent enough to be put in the same sentence as those pockets of wealth we all know about in the Home Counties. It's a jack-of-all-trades, master of none."

Whilst looking at a bin full of graffiti, he continued: "Apparently Chris cheated on Emma, Emma, we're all with you, get out of that relationship and get out of this city. You're better than both of them.

He then films a busker: "Let's hear some traditional Oxford music."

Before moving on: "Oxford has a castle which I went to see but you've got to pay a lot to get into so I didn't. I browsed the gift shop and then I saw there's a mound next to the castle where you can pay £2 and get given the gate code so you can walk up it. I paid my £2, got the gate and walked up the mound, I got to the top and realised I'd been absolutely done."

Finally, Phil summarised: "The absolute worst thing about Oxford though is getting in and out of the place. I used to work here a little bit and traffic is a nightmare, there's been no joined-up thinking for years. Buses and bikes are great and I'm fully on board but this is an Island City surrounded by countryside, people are going to use cars and they need to sort of factor that in a little bit.

"Oxford then should it be considered one of the worst places and one of the most desirable places to live? Well yes, it depends on your outlook but come and rent here first and don't sign a long contract on that tenancy."
