Two black cats in Oxfordshire with names inspired by the Oasis brothers are searching for their forever home.

Cherwell Cats Protection (CCP) is trying to find a home for both felines Liam and Noel on National Black Cat Day (October 27).

Around 50 per cent of cats in the protection group's care are black or black and white, according to the charity.

The charity says despite their "often sweet disposition", black cats still take longer to rehome than gingers and tabbies.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) also says black cats are the least likely to be adopted.

A spokesperson for Cherwell Cats Protection said: "Liam and Noel are two young cats looking for a home together.

"Noel is a lap cat who enjoys playing with fishing rod toys and Liam is a sweet boy who enjoys head rubs and would probably like a lap if Noel gave him the chance.

"These lovely boys were found as unneutered strays and so it is unknown if they could live with another cat or dog.

"Liam is not as confident as his brother and consequently both cats would probably enjoy a quiet home with no small children."

Founded in 2006 and run by a small team of volunteers, the charity says it is dedicated to improving the lives of cats and kittens in the Cherwell area covering Banbury, Bicester, Brackley, Chipping Norton and surrounding communities.
