BICESTER kept their 100 per cent record intact by narrowly beating Aylesbury 17-10 in Southern Counties North.
Peter Tarrega and Dave Hampton crossed for the North Oxfordshire side, while Tom Miles kicked seven points in their first win over the Buckinghamshire side in four attempts.
In an error-strewn game, Bicester opened the scoring after 19 minutes.
Winger Tarrega ran in from 30 metres to score in the corner and Miles converted from the touchline.
The first half ended 7-0, but Bicester’s Jack Horwood and Aylesbury’s Gary Horne were sin-binned.
Aylesbury started the second period strongly and No 8 Cory Neighbour was driven over.
Dave Stow converted for the home side.
Miles and Stow exchanged penalties to leave the game level at 10-10.
But Bicester went on to score what turned out to be the match-winning try.
Tarrega was, once again, involved as he led a break to cause a huge dent in the Aylesbury defence, before fly half Hampton raced through a gap to cross.
Miles converted to make it 17-10.
Aylesbury launched one further surge through the middle, but a timely intervention by Jack Horwood broke down the attack and earned Bicester a penalty.
Miles was unsuccessful this time from 30 metres, but it did not matter.
Meanwhile, Bicester’s 2nd and 3rd teams both had their games postponed due to a lack of officials.
