PETER Kioso will undergo further tests after feeling unwell while on international duty with DR Congo.

The Oxford United right back made his international debut as DR Congo were beaten 2-1 in stoppage time by Ethiopia in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

Kioso played the first 45 minutes and was then taken off at half-time after becoming ill during the break.

U’s head coach Des Buckingham said: “He came off at half-time and wasn’t feeling great, but the reports that we heard back from there have been okay.

“He’s reported in, and we’ll do our own checks on him, and as long as he comes through those, he’ll be fully training and expected to be part of the squad for Saturday.”

Kioso was making his international debut after a patient wait to get on the pitch.

The 25-year-old received his first international call-up last month, when he was promoted from an initial standby list following an injury to Ipswich Town defender Axel Tuanzebe.

However, Kioso wasn’t involved in a double-header of qualifiers against Tanzania, and also watched from the bench last week when DR Congo suffered a stoppage time 1-0 defeat against Guinea.

Buckingham said: “He’s been working extremely hard and waited very long for that opportunity, and full credit to him for that.

“I know it was a very proud moment for him and for his family, and I’m just delighted he managed to get on the pitch this time, to make his debut.”
